Operations Manager

Job Description:

Switch is searching a full time Field Operations Manager to join our fast-moving, fast-growing, and dynamic team. We are looking for an individual who is smart, hard-working, and dedicated to delivering the best possible service to our customers.

Roles and Responsibilities

• Develop and implement operating policies and programs that guide the company in maintaining and improving profitability as well as its competitive industry position.
• Prioritize, organize and direct projects within the Operations department to achieve clearly defined schedules, quality standards and cost objectives.
• Prepare and maintain documentation of telecom and network configurations and cabling layouts.
• Implement policies, procedures, and organizational structure for assigned operating unit within the framework of corporate policy.
• Assist in the establishment and ensure compliance of operational unit's short-term and long-term goals within overall corporate objectives.
• Plan, staff, and supervise all assigned work unit activities through subordinate managers to ensure a cohesive operational unit.
• Provide support to any number of projects from an operational, financial and resource standpoint.
• Responsible for developing strong field force in conjunction with the general superintendent as well as project managers and superintendents.
• Monitoring availability and flow of personnel as well as hiring, motivating and assigning teams to projects.
• Coordinate and confer with professional staff to resolve operating problems and difficulties, and authorize department operational procedures within corporate framework.
• Serves as management team member.
• Manage the work order process, including the creation of work orders in conjunction with sales and engineering, and make sure that information is always up to date and correct
• Ensure that safety forms are filled out by field personnel regularly according to the Switch HSE policy
• Audit personnel, work orders, safety forms and other field reports from time to time or as necessary to identify ongoing problems that need to be addressed
• Create and manage field personnel schedules and keep Scheduling module current
• Perform additional assignments per supervisor's direction.

• Diploma or higher in an applicable field
• Minimum 5 years of field experience in an applicable field
• Minimum 2 years supervisor experience

Working Conditions

Regular office hours are 8:30am – 5:00pm , Monday through Friday. However, the ability to work flexible hours to ensure you are able to respond to the needs of your technicians who are in the field is necessary. Field work will be required to verify technician’s quality of work and to ensure our high standards are met.

Field Technician

Job Description:

Switch is looking for telecommunications field technicians for temporary/contract work. Areas where the work would be performed include Alberta and British Columbia, Saskatchewan and potentially Manitoba. Transportation would be provided as well as room and board while on the job site(s).

What does a technician at Switch do? They are the troops on the ground that install, maintain, repair and deliver our phone, internet, surveillance and television services to our many valued clients. They are the face of the company and are our primary representatives to both end clients as well as the people for whom our clients work. This means that a positive attitude, an excellent work ethic, an ability to remain calm under pressure and the capacity to work unsupervised in sometimes harsh conditions are qualities that will go a long way to getting you the job.

The position of Field Technician involves pulling/running cable, installing wireless access points, splitters, boosters or whatever the job requires. Field Technicians are supported by the Operations and Engineering teams.

Skills we require are listed below (but depending on your other skills, we might be able to overlook any that are lacking):

• Knowledge of running & terminating telco cabling of types such as coax (RG-6 & RG-11), cat5e, cat 6, fiber optic, twisted pair copper, and troubleshooting steps and procedures for each.
• You like to leave a job looking nice and tidy. You see every installation as a work of art!
• Familiarity with testing devices and administration consoles (both software and web-based)
• Expert computer user (we want power users!)
• Hard worker
• You have the capacity to learn on the job and get creative with solutions to problems
• Experience with RF, microwave and AWP certification considered an asset.

Safety is a high priority at Switch, and all technicians will be expected to not only receive and pass safety training from Switch and other organizations, but to also routinely and diligently file safety reports and adhere to the policies which are put in place to protect you and other workers around you.

You must have a valid Alberta driver’s license and be drug-free, as many of our work sites require drug tests prior to arriving and working on the premises.

You must also be able to lift up to 75 lbs, climb ladders, work at heights, crawl under buildings (safety training will be provided for everything), and be ready to work in rain or shine (or the freezing cold!).

Switch is looking for a full-time network engineer to fill this extremely important job opening in our Edmonton office. The main responsibilities for this role include:

- Analyzing, designing and managing of network infrastructure and application components to ensure that all the pieces consistently meet business and performance requirements.
- Performing a wide variety of evaluation, planning, deployment and training tasks for different projects, products and services for different layer 2 technologies and IP network infrastructure.
- Operating as Level III Support for Network and User Support groups (Level I and Level II) and Field teams. Must possess working experience and knowledge for following:
- Extensive Network (IP, Ethernet, Access) technology development knowledge
- Demonstrated in-depth knowledge of LAN/WAN support and engineering design for voice, data and video networks at Access, Aggregation and Core network locations
- In-depth knowledge of IP Networks, VoIP, Ethernet, MPLS & ISP architectures and platforms from a broad array of Vendor-specific and standards based technologies
- Experience with BGP, OSPF, RIP and other standard routing protocols , IP Multicasting,L2TP, PPPoE and SNMP
- Experience with Ethernet network and related protocols like (VLAN, dot1q, Spanning tree, LACP, LAGP, etc., and MEF defined services)
- Familiarity with Metro Ethernet Forum (MEF) standards
- Experience of working on Cisco Routers, Switches and Cisco ACS Server.
- Experience of working on multivendor equipment
- Knowledge of Virtualization and operating systems & servers (Windows Server platform, Linux based OS and servers like IMAP, SMTP, DNS, NMS, DHCP, Radius Server, etc.)

Your income will be supplemented with a generous commission/bonus structure and your earnings will not be capped.
